We have positions in both Hebron, KY, and North Clarendon, VT.
Strategic Function
Provide technical support for the thermal spray processes, with a concentration on optimizing the quality of coatings and improving production efficiency. This role focuses on supporting business growth through a combination of new development work and continuous process improvement strategies that stem from a hands-on engineering expertise with aerospace and industrial coatings technologies.
Tactical Responsibilities
Develop and/or continuously improve the technical processes at the plant level that give product, quality and delivery superiority in coatings.
Interface directly with the Planning Team engineering group to provide technical expertise regarding the transition of new work from development to production.
Support specific steps in the development of new aerospace and industrial coatings processes and parameters in order to:
oQualify client for approval
oAssist in the development of detailed methods to accomplish production requirements and transfer effectively to operations.
oInterface with Lab for all coating project requirements.
oProve out tooling/masking concepts for smooth production transition.
Understand both Plasma and HVOF applications and the underlying tech plans and operation and maintenance of all robots and spray guns.
Serve as a key resource for the Site Manager in the development of measurable, thermal spray process improvement strategies.
Conduct ongoing assignments to develop new thermal spray processes, analyze operating procedures, equipment and machinery functions, and make strategic recommendations for profitability improvement through reducing processing time and cost.
Provide engineering technical support for the design of new processes and the resolution of thermal spray problems.
Perform in-process studies in order to determine the most efficient production spray methods. Work with Quality to develop control systems and procedures that will safely and economically produce the highest possible quality products.
Support lean manufacturing and six-sigma initiatives to improve plant profitability.
Teach others so that knowledge gained from development efforts is integrated into the production group.
Evaluate the in-process effectiveness of all tooling and make recommendations to improve tooling and fixture design.
Skill and Education Qualifications
Knowledge of coatings manufacturing processes and related equipment
Engineering degree (materials science, mechanical or electrical preferred)
Technical knowledge supporting thermal spray process development
Project management and administration skills
Process improvement orientation and knowledge of the industry standard disciplines that drive manufacturing efficiencies
Problem-solving abilities
Team orientation with strong collaboration skills
